Corporate History
For more than four decades, Miller Energy Resources has had a tradition of visionary leadership that drives its success and investment in the future.
Miller Energy Resources has a legacy of experience and a rich history. Founded by Deloy Miller, Miller Energy Resources is a Tennessee registered company that has been in existence for over 40 years and been publicly traded for 12 years. Mr. Miller, who now serves as Chairman of the Board and Chief Operating Officer, was a pioneer in the highly successful 1969 and 1980 drilling booms in the Southern Appalachian Basin. A native of Tennessee, he has served two terms as president of the Tennessee Oil and Gas Association. In 1978, the organization named him the "Tennessee Oil Man of the Year." Mr. Miller has been the petroleum industry's representative to the Tennessee Oil and Gas Board, appointed by the Governor of Tennessee.
By the 1980s, Miller had become the largest oil and natural gas company in the southern Appalachian region, with 18 drilling and work-over rigs in service from New York to Alabama. To date, the company has drilled or serviced more than 5,200 wells in Southern Appalachian Basin. With the extensive experience that comes from such a large number of drilled and completed wells, Miller has gained unsurpassed expertise in finding as well as producing oil and gas. The company is not only knowledgeable in prospect generation, correct drilling procedures, completion and stimulation techniques, but also has quality management, with excellent field support.
Under the leadership of company CEO, Scott M. Boruff, Miller has recently embarked on a new chapter in its rich history. In 2009, Miller completed three acquisitions that have significantly reshaped the company. The acquisition of East Tennessee Consultants and the assets of KY-Tenn Oil have positioned Miller as the largest owner/operator of oil and natural gas wells in Tennessee. In late 2009, Miller completed the acquisition of certain select assets of Pacific Energy's Resources in Cook Inlet, Alaska, which have set the stage for a bright future at Miller.
